Who am I?
My name is Neva Ciftcioglu Banes. I am an alien! No kidding! I have been living abroad since 1991. So, for at least 25 years I have been living as an alien. When I was working as a scientist at NASA Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX), I was carrying an ID badge like other employees. Everyone else’s badge color was white, but because I was an alien, and it was apparently necessary to mark aliens, mine was green. The most asked question by others was “be honest…have you seen any aliens at NASA? Do they really exist? Are they really green?” My answer was always “yes there are aliens and they are green!” As you might imagine, my life journey has acquainted me with many different cultures, life styles and ways of thinking. Because of these experiences, my views shifted quite a bit. Therefore I feel like an alien in my own country too. Do I feel at home anywhere? No, not really. Recently, when I watch the world, notice the carelessness of humanity towards the entire planet--including pollution, cruelty towards animals, starving children, plastic relationships--and see the values of other people and strength of ego, I feel like an alien in the entire world. Throughout my time in this physical realm of existence, I have always questioned life and looked at it differently than many others that I have known. But, I never thought that I was actually an alien or anything of that sort. However, in the last couple years, I began to question life more than ever. When somebody asks who I am, the cliché answer basically would contain the name, age, profession, nation and family. However, I am still looking for myself. “Who am I?” If I ever find a satisfactory answer, I will let you know.
If you're looking for a path to wisdom, the options are plentiful. Should you take a leaf out of Plato or Aristotle, tune into your feelings, or just put your faith in a power greater than yourself? Every one of us have different experiences in life and have formed unique personalities with that (Let’s not forget the genes here...they play quite a big role in shaping you, but as epigenecitics teaches us, that is not the end of it). Along these lines, the way we live and look at life forms our very own “ology.” This web page conveys my perspective towards science, art, love and life. I hope this will help start you on your path. In social media, such as facebook and twitter, we mostly share someone else’s thoughts and “ologies.” Why not to create our own “ology” page? There are so many people who are going to look down at you for feeling and thinking the way you do, but there are others who will be able to relate to you. Finding others with whom you can relate (from all over the world) will always motivate and encourage every single one of you. We need each other. Nevalogy is my path. I am expecting to cross with many other unique paths. …Including Yours! I love one of the quotes by Steve Jobs:
“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”
I agree with him. However, I am also a strong believer in learning from each other. You may disagree with me. But explain your perspective in detail. Stretching the walls surrounding me will never hurt my ego. I do not want to write pages about my “Nevalogy philosophy” here. My daily shares of ideas will define me well to you. You can freely share your opinions and feelings (only if they are in the frame of respect and free of ego too). You can ask questions. I will answer them in nevalogy range as much as time allows. Everyone is invited to my block, especially the alien ones. Let’s discuss about everything. Widen our thoughts to find out who really we are. After all, If you still insist upon me to summarize Nevalogy, it is:
“The most finite resource we have on this planet is time. Be a person who uses every second as a gift of life. Make the world a better place for having you and your work as part of it. For that, mindfulness is the only light that helps in succeeding in almost every dimension of life. Stopping daily to look inward and stay connected is the key. With this, the other completion comes. We start seing invisible joy, possibilities, our very own capabilities, and more important, truth. That is possible only with other people. We are like Lego pieces. Wholeness can be possible only and when we find the correct people and click with them. Welcome to Nevalogy. Let’s click and form “lifeology”!
